Bundesliga to bring more blockbuster games

What has happened in the Bundesliga and what is to come

The Bundesliga is back for yet another exciting weekend of action packed games. Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Union Berlin and SC Freiburg are just a few of the exciting teams set to take the pitch this weekend. Union Berlin and SC Freiburg will also be hoping to maintain their positions in the top two positions.

Union Berlin flying high this season

Since Union Berlin was promoted they have done nothing but get better. When they were promoted they came in 11thplace, the following season 7th and then last season fifth place. This is a team that can frustrate the likes of Bayern and Dortmund and are not to be taken for granted. They beat Malmo in the Europa League this past week and will be energized coming back to the Bundesliga. Union Berlin face 17th place Stuttgart away from home and will strive to get the three points. SC Freiburg is another team that has gone beyond many people’s expectation by being in second. In fact they are tied with Union Berlin on points and just behind simply because of goal difference. SC Freiburg will definitely want to take advantage of the fact that they face Hertha who is in 15th one point from relegation.

The Clash of the German titans

Dortmund and Bayern had to share the spoils in which was an intense Der Klassiker that was decided at the very last minute. Dortmund went into this match in 4th place and Bayern went into this match in 3rd. Bayern go into this game having won their last seven matches against Dortmund. They will also be confident knowing they got a comfortable victory against Viktoria Plzen.  Goretzka and Sane had given Bayern a 2 goal lead to put Bayern in the driving seat. Cameroonian youngster Moukoko managed to get Dortmund back in the game with 16 minutes to spare. Bayern thought they had this game in the bag. They were reduced to 10 men as Coman was sent off in the 90th minute. Then in injury time Modeste gets a goal help Dortmund avoid defeat.

The fall of Schalke 04

These past few years for Schalke 04 have not been what they had hoped for at all. Considering that this used to be a team that would challenge Bayern and Dortmund for the title it is shocking to see where they are now. The last time they were in the top ten was five seasons ago when they reached 2nd place. Eleven seasons ago Schalke reached the semi finals of the champions league and to see where they are now is very disappointing. So far Schalke 04 have only won a single game out of nine matches. To add onto their miserable season they have only scored 10 whilst conceding 21. If Schalke 04 continues at this rate they could find themselves relegated again. Schalke 04 is an  example of how one minute a team is on the top the next minute at the bottom.
