A project that keeps failing
Once again Paris Saint Germain has failed to lift the trophy their hearts most desired. For years and years Paris Saint Germain have spent billions of euros on players such as Cavani, Ibrahimovic, Mbappe and others. This club has made the Champions League its main target but always seem to fall so short. The closest they ever came to winning their most desired competition was in 2020 when they lost against Bayern. The real question us why is a club with so much talent and money falling short season after season. Despite having arguably one of the best squads in Europe and always being the favorites they just cannot seem to get over the line.
Bayern hurt PSG’s chances of winning the champions league once again
The French Champions were just recently knocked out of the Champions League by Bayern Munich on Wednesday. Even after having been on a good run of form they could not manage to advance to the quarterfinals. What is even more disappointing is they could not score a single goal over the two legs despite having many chances. Despite PSG having a few moments of brilliance through Messi, Mbappe and Ramos they could not find the back of the net. PSG have exited from the Champions League three times in the last five years to the hands with the other two coming from Manchester United and Real Madrid. The one against Real Madrid was disappointing in terms of the fact they had a 2-0 lead on aggregate. Manchester United had managed to beat them by scoring a last minute penalty to qualify for the last 8.
Ego filled dressing room must go for PSG to finally succeed
Many believe the reasons behind PSG’s failure is because it is a club full of ego’s. When you have players like Neymar arguing with players over penalty kick responsibilities it gives you much reason to think they care about individual success. They were also stories of Neymar and Marquinhos arguing with the sporting director. Issues like this make a team more divided and don’t bring unity to a squad which is what you need to win big tournaments. PSG is more about individual players making a name for themselves than it is about helping the team succeed. If PSG is to win big tournaments that needs to change and that may mean getting rid of players who are not putting the team first.
What needs to change for this club
One of the many reasons PSG has not succeeded is they have always prioritized attack over midfield and defense. Although their defense has improved with the likes of Ramos, Marquinhos, Mendes and others their midfield still needs boosting. To win the Champions League any team must have a solid midfield and defense and that is something PSG still struggle. Things may also get worse for PSG as they risk losing all three of their attacking trident. Messi is out of contract and will unlikely renew and the club is trying to sell Neymar. Mbappe could get fed up of the situation at the club of not winning the champions league. In fact they were claims earlier on in the season that he wanted to leave so they are going to have to work hard in order to keep him.
