Great start for the Kiwis in the World Cup
The World Cup has started on a positive note for New Zealand. Thanks to an early 2nd half goal by Hannah Wilkinson the Kiwis started their World Cup campaign on a high. Hannah Wilkinson makes history
The hosts New Zealand registered their first ever win opening game win ever. The Kiwis will now have the confidence to register their second win which would take them to the knockout stages. It was also the second ever World Cup goal by Hannah Wilkinson. Although it was an evenly matched game the Kiwis still got their three points. It was also a great accomplishment as they entered the game as underdogs. Their next game is against the Phillippines which could secure their place in the knockout stages. Considering it is their World Cup debut the Kiwis will be confident of picking up another three points. New Zealand did have a chance to go 2-0 up through a penalty but Ria Percval missed a penalty.
Norway fall short in their opening World Cup game
The Norwegians fell short to the hosts in their opening match. Their remaining games are against Switzerland and Norway and they will be hoping to bounce back in those games. As this is Ada Hegerberg’s first World Cup she will be hoping to get on the scoresheet for the first time ever. Despite being the favorites against New Zealand they fell short in their opening match. The Kiwis struck the post in the 80th minute through CJ Bott bringing them centimeters away from an equalizer. Norway had a chance to equalize in injury time but their chance went wide
