Netherlands took on Portugal at the Forsyth Bar Stadium. Holland secured a narrow victory over Portugal to get all the three points. Stefanie Van der Gragt was on target to give Holland an early lead in the 13th minute. It recorded the lowest attendance so far this World Cup as they only had 11,991 in total attendance. Portugal have a mountain to climb
Portugal failed to impress their fans by losing on their World Cup debut. Selecao managed to only threaten Netherlands defense once during the match in 82nd minute. Portugal will now have to turn their attention to their games against USWNT and Vietnam. Netherlands will have to defeat USA if they are to progress to the next round of the World Cup. It would be one of the shocks of the tournament but Portugal will have no choice but to beat the US. Holland confident finish top after beating Portugal
The 2019 World Cup finalists started their World Cup campaign on a high thanks to their victory against Portugal. Netherlands managed to defeat Portugal for the second time in a row with the first being at the Euros. Holland breathed a sigh of relief after Van der Gragt goal was given back to them after it was ruled out. They then could have added a second but Roord’s effort was cleared off the line. Netherlands will now turn their focus to their clashes against USWNT and Vietnam. Holland will be seeking revenge from the 2019 World Cup final against the USA.
