Italy kicks of their campaign in style
Italy faced off against Argentina at Eden Park at Auckland. Le Azzure picked up a late narrow win against Argentina as they kicked off the second game of Group G. It was heartbreak for the Argentinians as they were close to ending the game 0-0 but it was not to be. Girelli managed to score her fourth World Cup goal to give Italy the all important three points. Girelli adds on to a brilliant season
It was a dream start for Italy as they managed to defeat a resilient Argentina after a hard fought match. Juventus striker Girelli added on to a what was a brilliant season by scoring a late goal against Argentina. The Italy forward netted 15 goals and made 6 assists in 23 games. Italy managed to get the reward for dominating the game as they had 12 efforts compared to Argentina’s 5. The Italians could have had the lead after 16 minutes as Caruso hit the ball sweetly but it was cancelled out by VAR. Giacinti also put the ball in the back of the net but yet another Italy goal was ruled out for offside. Then Girelli managed to meet Boatin’s cross to win the match for Italy.
Argentina must simply do better
Argentina will be very disappointed with how they started their World Cup campaign against Italy. La Ablecieste. Argentina had a chance to take a lead in the 1st minute but Larroquete put the ball wide past the post. Their efforts were not enough as they were simply dominated by Italy. Argentina still have a chance at redemption with their fixtures against South Africa and Sweden. The Argentines will want to reach the knockout stage for the first time and their pursuit did not start on the right note. If Argentina are to qualify for the Last 16 they have to perform the miraculous and beat 3rd ranked FIFA team Sweden.
