Colombia settle the game by first half
Colombia took on South Korea at Sydney Football Stadium in Sydney. Las Caferatas started their campaign by getting a 2-0 win over South Korea. Colombia have not been in the World Cup since 2015 and managed to return in impressive style. Dream start for Caicedo
Colombia managed to settle the tie by the first half with their goals coming in the 30th and 39th minute. The first goal came from Catalina Usme who slotted the ball home after the being given a penalty as the ball hit Shim’s arm. Nine minutes later Caicedo struck home on her debut to double the lead from Colombia. Caicedo has shown a lot of promise for Colombia as she was named best player from Copa America. To add on to her dream debut she also won player of the match. Colombia right now are on a good path and will be happy with the way they perform. They have remaining games against Morocco and Germany as they seek to qualify for the knockout stages.
South Korea must simply do better
South Korea were unable to respond as Colombia settled the game in the first half. Lee did give South Korea the chance to get back in the game with a header that was punched away by Colombia goalkeeper Perez. The knockout stages are looking increasingly unlikely for the South Koreans after losing their opener. They still have to take on Germany who are scoring goals for fun at the moment and Morocco who need to salvage something. South Korea is going to have to be at their best defensively and offensively if they are to repeat their heroics of 2019
