Switzerland draws stalemate

Switzerland produce bland performance

Switzerland and Norway faced off against one another at Waikato Stadium in Hamilton. The two played to a goalless draw leaving Norway at the bottom of the table. Switzerland on the other hand benefited from the draw as they reached top position. This clash also had the lowest attendance so far in the 2023 Womens World Cup as only 10,769 people showed up. Futbol Mundial brings you the best moments from Switzerland’s draw with Norway.

Norway draw not enough

This draw against Switzerland leaves Norway desperately needing a win against Philippines to qualify. Norway played out to a goalless draw against Switzerland and were unable to find the back of the net during the 90 minutes. Unfortunately for the Norwegians Ada Hegerberg went off before the match even started as she struggled with her groin. She claimed that during the warm-up she accelerated herself a bit too much and that was what caused the problem. Norway had the chance to take the lead through Roman Haug but was denied by Thalmann. Hansen then went through the whole entire team forcing a save by Thalmann. Despite Norway having the best chances of the game it simply was not to be for them. Norway will be hoping she is back to her best for when they take on Philippines in their must win game.

Switzerland will be counting their lucky stars after being able to pull of a draw. The Swiss were dominated by Norway in almost every area of the pitch. Switzerland had a chance to go ahead as Bachmann had an effort on goal only for it to be blocked by Bjelde. Gaelle Thalmann was the hero for the Swiss without a doubt pulling of some amazing saves to deny Norway the victory. Switzerland already have one foot in the knockout stages as they have secured four points. Simply a draw against the hosts will take them through to the next round. Switzerland missed out on last World Cup and will want to right their wrongs by qualifying for the knockout stages. They will also believe that they can go past the Last 16 which they have never done before.
