Japan take advantage of Norway’s poor defense
Japan took on Norway at the Wellington Regional Stadium. The Japanese advanced to the quarterfinals after managing to hold off Norway. Miyazawa managed to pick up her 5th goal in three appearances to add to her already brilliant tournament. Norway will feel like they should have done better
It is the end of the road for a Norway team who started the World Cup in brilliant form. Japan proved to be too good at the end for the Norwegians. To the Scandinavians unfortunate Engen was trying to clear the ball but it ended up in her own net. Norway was given a glimmer of hope as Guro Reiten equalized five minutes after Japan took the lead. They then gave out as they conceded two second half goals. Norway could have equalized but Saevik’s effort zipped past the post. Norway will be kicking themselves as they could have avoided two of Japan’s goals.
Miyazawa proving to be lethal
This match was not as straightforward for Japan as they would have wanted. They got a bit of help from lady luck as Engen who was trying to kick the ball put it in her own net. They then added a second thanks to Norway’s poor defending as the ball fell to Risa Shimizu who scored. Hinata Miyazawa then finished off the game but slotting the ball home in the 81st minute. Japan will now go on to face Sweden who they will be favorites against. Hinata Miyazawa is having a dream tournament and is determined to help Japan replicate their 2011 heroics.
