Real Madrid down Los Leones
Real Madrid faced off against Athletic Club Bilbao in their La Liga opener. Los Blancos got off to a winning start as they downed Bilbao 2-0. Bellingham and Rodrygo were on target to give Real Madrid the three points. Los Blancos are hoping to bring back La Liga to the Santiago Bernabeu after missing out to their bitter rivals Barcelona. Bellingham makes an impact on debut
Bellingham got off to a dream start for Real Madrid as he lobbed the ball into the net past Unai Simon. Rodrygo opened the scoring in the 28th minute for Real Madrid with a beautiful strike. Eight minutes later Bellingham doubled the lead for Los Blancos as they went into halftime 2-0 up. Those goals proved to be the only goals of the game. Real Madrid will now go on to face Almeria for yet another away game and will be aiming for yet another win. However Real Madrid’s win was filled with some negative news as Militao went off injured. The Brazilian left the pitch in tears as his injury does not look good.
Bilbao winless in four La Liga openers
Athletic Bilbao got their campaign off to a bad start after falling to Real Madrid 2-0. Los Leones have not won an opening La Liga game since 2019 when they stunned Barcelona thanks to an Aduriz bicycle kick. Athletic Bilbao are also winless in three games now against Real Madrid after their opening game defeat. Gomez Extebarria had the chance to half the lead for Los Leones but it was comfortably saved by Lunin. Oihan Sancet also had an attempt on goal but it was cleared by Alaba. Inigo Galarreta was the only player that Athletic Bilbao added to their squad this season. They will be significantly weaker this year after losing veteran La Liga defender Inigo Martinez. Athletic Bilbao will hope to redeem themselves against Osasuna when face off next Saturday.
