Serie A players hoping to return better than ever
Serie A season is one week away from returning to action. It was only three months ago when Napoli made history by winning their first Serie A title in 33 years. Every season the excitement builds up the as the players get ready to take center stage. Futbol Mundial looks at some of the players who will make an impact as the season resumes on August 19th.
Osimhen going for his second golden boot
The first should not come as a surprise at all to Serie A fans or football fans. Osimhen guided Gli Azzuri to their first title in 33 years. He also managed to become the top scorer last season in the scudetto. Manchester United were battling it out for him this summer but his price tag was too expensive. Al-Hilal then wanted to secure his services but De Laurentis made it clear that he is not for sale. According to some reports Napoli are trying to tie him to a new deal so they can have him for a long time. It may be hard to help Napoli retain the Serie A but with Osimhen leading the line nothing is impossible.
Martinez hoping to impress in first season as captain
Lautaro Martinez has consistently proved to be an impressive scorer in a league as competitive as Serie A. Since arriving in 2018 he has yet to win the which is his next big obstacle to complete. Lautaro Martinez guided Inter to the Champions League final as well as helping them win the Coppa Italia. This is set to be El Toro’s biggest season as he will be handed the captains armband. So will he be able to emulate his compatriot Diego Milito and guide Inter to glory. Inter will be going for the Serie A title and with Martinez they can really fancy their chances.
Leao hoping to lead Rossoneri to glory
Rafael Leao proved to be AC Milan’s most crucial player in Europe and in the Serie A. Leao guided AC Milan to the title in 2022 for the first time in 11 years. The Portuguese youngster guided AC Milan to their first semifinal since 2007. He played a big role in helping the Rossoneri beat Napoli in the quarterfinals after his amazing run and assist to Giroud. As AC Milan are one of the main contenders for the title Leao could play a pivotal role in guiding them to victory.
Immobile hoping to return to scoring ways
Ciro Immobile had a quiet season after only netting 12 goals last season. The Lazio legend will be eager to redeem himself this season. The Italian veteran will want to emulate his Serie A season where he scored 36 goals. He holds the record of most goals in a single Serie A season along with Rossetti and Higuain. Immobile has four Capoccanoniere to his name but his biggest achievement to date is winning the European golden shoe. Immobile is a game changer and guided Lazio to the knockout stages in 2021.
Dybala hoping to fire Roma to glory
Paulo Dybala had a promising first season with AS Roma in the Serie A. There was speculation of Dybala leaving to join Chelsea if they met his release clause of €12 million by August 1st. Mourinho has described Dybala as a gem and even stated he could sleep better once his release clause expired. Over the years Dybala has been one of the best players in the Serie A. He has guided Juventus to five consecutive scudetto titles and also won the MVP award in 2020.
