Clausura 2025 Matchday 12: Key Stats and Highlights

Matchday 12 of the Liga MX Clausura 2025 concluded with an exciting display of football, featuring a total of 28 goals. This brings the tournament’s total to 317 goals, marking the highest tally in the first 108 games since the Apertura 2015 when 322 goals were scored.

Young Talents Shine on Their Debut

Cruz Azul’s Luis Ángel Gutiérrez Grimm and Pachuca’s Juan Alexander Sigala made their professional debuts. Sigala had a dream debut, scoring a goal and becoming the fourth Pachuca player to score in his first Liga MX match in the short tournament era, following Hirving Lozano’s feat in 2014.

Cruz Azul also met the youth player requirement rule, making them the tenth team to surpass 1,000 minutes played by young players this season.

Individual Milestones and Team Achievements

  • Miguel Gómez (Chivas) scored his first professional goal in this tournament. Having debuted on Matchday 1, he has now accumulated 150 minutes of playtime. He became the fourth Chivas player to score his first Liga MX goal during the Clausura 2025, joining Teun Wilke, Hugo Camberos, and Luis Gabriel Rey.
  • Club América reclaimed the top spot in the standings for the first time since Matchday 6, reaching 27 points—the same total they accumulated in the previous tournament.
  • Ángel Sepúlveda reached 100 career goals across top-level club and international competitions (76 in Liga MX, 12 in Copa MX, 8 in Concacaf Champions Cup, 2 in Leagues Cup, and 2 with the Mexican National Team).

Record-Breaking Performances

  • Cruz Azul scored three goals as hosts at Estadio Olímpico Universitario for the first time in its history. It was their eighth home match at the venue, counting two games from 2020 (5 wins, 3 draws).
  • Diber Cambindo reached 11 goals in the Clausura 2025 and 25 with Necaxa, tying Hugo Rodallega as the club’s fifth all-time top scorer in short tournaments.
  • Querétaro secured their fourth win of the Clausura 2025, surpassing their total victories from the entire previous tournament.
  • Toluca won for the fifth time in the last six matchdays, scoring three or more goals in four of their last five matches.
  • Alexis Vega and Paulinho each have eight goals this season, marking the first time Toluca has had two players with at least eight goals in a single tournament since Apertura 2015, when Enrique Triverio scored 10 and Fernando Uribe netted 9.

Defensive Struggles and Unusual Records

  • Tigres struggled defensively under Veljko Paunovic, keeping only one clean sheet in their first ten matches. However, with Guido Pizarro in the lineup, they have not conceded a goal in their last two league games.
  • Tigres benefited from two own goals in a single match, a feat they hadn’t witnessed since March 2, 2019, when Jaine Barreiro scored twice against his own team in a 3-0 win over Pachuca.
  • Atlas’ Uros Durdevic has now scored in three consecutive matches, the first Atlas player to achieve this since Eduardo Aguirre between January and February 2024.

Rayados’ Dominance Against Pumas & Pachuca’s Home Hero

  • Monterrey scored eight goals in their last two visits to Pumas, a remarkable feat considering they only netted eight goals in their previous nine away matches against Pumas between 2015 and 2023.
  • John Kennedy scored in Pachuca’s last five home matches, becoming the first player to do so since Franco Jara, who achieved the feat between the end of the Apertura 2018 and the start of the Clausura 2019.

What’s Next?

With only five matchdays remaining in the regular season, teams are fighting for playoff positions, while individual players continue to chase scoring and performance milestones. Matchday 13 promises even more thrilling action in Liga MX.
