Atletico and Barca fight for supremacy

Los Colchoneros face a tricky test on Wednesday

Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona set to take on each other in what is set to a juggernaut clash between two heavyweight clubs. The battle between Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona has never shied away from being a brilliant fixture in recent times. The last time these two took on each other in the first leg it was nothing short of entertaining. Both teams came back from 2 goal deficits which ended up in a thrilling 4-4 draw.

Can Atletico’s stubborn defense keep Barca out

Simeone will want to put his recent run of form behind him by guiding Los Colchoneros towards the final of the Cup. They have dropped a total of eight points in march and many could argue they are out of the La Liga race. Simeone has been known to have a defensive approach over the years as they completely shut out Real Madrid in the 2nd leg of the Champions League. However this season Rojiblancos have attacked from out wide through their wingbacks as well as their wingers. With Llorente pace and Reinildo running down the flanks Atletico have created plenty of scoring opportunities this season. This approach is contrary to their traditional method of winning ugly and just narrowly winning games. Although Barcelona are in scary form their high backline can be exposed. If Atletico is to win they have to expose the high backline of Barcelona.

Barca looking like a team to fear

Barcelona are looking like a scary club under Flick. They are the team to beat in Europe. This will not come as good news for Atletico. They may have a high backline but their ability to dominate possession and control the game keeps the ball in the opposition half. Their attack has also proved to be a disaster for many teams  failing to keep out the likes of Lewandowski, Yamal and Raphinha. Their midfield connects well with the attack something that has been key to their playing style. Yamal’s dribbling and acceleration often opens up space for the attackers in the box to score. Not to forget their squad depth in Ferran and Fermin who can come of the bench and have an immediate impact. With all these qualities it is hard to see Barcelona not beat Atletico
