INGLEWOOD, Calif. (April 5, 2025) — The U.S. Women’s National Team secured a 2-0 victory over Brazil in a landmark match at SoFi Stadium, thanks to early brilliance from Trinity Rodman and a second-half penalty by captain Lindsey Heaps. This international friendly was more than just a win — it was the first professional women’s sporting event ever played at the world-class venue.

Rodman wasted no time announcing her return, scoring just six minutes into her first appearance with the national team since the 2024 Paris Olympics. Her goal, assisted by Alyssa Thompson, gave the Americans early control and electrified the crowd of 32,303 — the second-largest for a USWNT game in the Los Angeles area.
In the 66th minute, Lily Yohannes was fouled inside the penalty box shortly after coming on as a substitute. Captain Lindsey Heaps stepped up and calmly converted the penalty, marking her 37th career goal and moving past Tobin Heath on the all-time USWNT scoring list.

The match also saw a clean sheet debut for goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce, who made six saves and became the 10th USWNT goalkeeper to record a shutout in their first cap. She was joined late in the match by defender Avery Patterson, who also earned her first cap.
The U.S. defense held strong against Brazil’s talented attack, with Emily Sonnett and Crystal Dunn anchoring the backline, and Tullis-Joyce providing confidence in goal. Despite Brazil managing 15 shots, only six were on target, and none found the net.
