Club América, Tigres eye semifinal spots in Champions Cup

Two of Liga MX’s heavyweights, Club América and Tigres UANL, are just one win away from advancing to the semifinals of the 2025 Concacaf Champions Cup. After goalless draws in the first legs, both clubs will enjoy home-field advantage on Tuesday in the decisive second-leg matchups.

Fans in Mexico can stream both games live on TUBI, while those in the United States can watch in Spanish on TUDN and ViX, or in English on FS1.

Tigres vs. LA Galaxy – All square in Nuevo León

Tigres UANL will welcome LA Galaxy to Estadio Universitario in San Nicolás de los Garza for the early kickoff. The first leg ended 0-0, but Tigres showed attacking intent with chances created by Juan BrunettaNicolás Ibáñez, and Ozziel Herrera. Ibáñez and Herrera each have two goals in the tournament.

In goal, Nahuel Guzmán remained composed under pressure, posting his second clean sheet of the campaign. Known for his big-match experience, Guzmán will be key in keeping the Galaxy off the board.

The MLS side, however, showed grit in the first leg, thanks in large part to goalkeeper John McCarthy, who made four crucial savesGabriel PecIsaiah Parente, and Matheus Nascimento all had chances and will look to capitalize if Tigres’ defense slips.

Club América vs. Cruz Azul – Clásico Joven with high stakes

Later in the night, Club América takes on Cruz Azul in a high-stakes edition of the Clásico Joven, this time at Estadio Olímpico Universitario. América leads the tournament with seven Champions Cup titles, while Cruz Azul follows closely with six. The winner not only claims city bragging rights but also a semifinal berth.

In the first leg, goalkeepers stole the show. Cruz Azul’s Kevin Mier made three key saves to preserve the clean sheet, while Club América’s Luis Ángel Malagón matched him with a standout performance that included a diving stop on Ángel Sepúlveda’s header. Malagón has now recorded back-to-back shutouts in the tournament and is fresh off winning the Concacaf Nations League Best Goalkeeper award.

Offensively, Diego ValdésBrian Rodríguez, and Kevin Álvarez each had one shot on target for América. Álvaro Fidalgo came close to scoring a stoppage-time winner but was denied by Mier in one of the game’s most tense moments.
