Pochettino’s Vision: Gold Cup as World Cup Prep

“This is an important opportunity for our team,” said head coach Mauricio Pochettino, “not only to compete for our confederation championship but also to continue to build our understanding of the group and who will be able to help us be successful at the FIFA World Cup next summer.”

This Gold Cup serves as the final competitive tournament before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where the USA will co-host alongside Mexico and Canada. With a blend of rising stars and proven talent, the USMNT is focused on more than just results — it’s about sharpening the squad for the global stage.

 Stadium Records: Undefeated Grounds

  • San Jose (PayPal Park): USA boasts a 4W-0L-2D record, with their last match a 6-0 World Cup Qualifier win over Honduras in 2017.
  • Austin (Q2 Stadium): The team is perfect here — 5W-0L-0D, no goals conceded. It also hosted the debut of the Pochettino era in October 2024.
  • Arlington (AT&T Stadium): A fortress for the Stars and Stripes — 6W-0L-0D all-time. Last year included title-clinching wins over Mexico and Jamaica in the Nations League.

 Road to Houston

The 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup will run from June 14 to July 6, featuring 16 national teams — 15 from Concacaf and guest nation Saudi Arabia — across 14 stadiums in 11 cities in the U.S. and Canada. The final will be held at the NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Group D rivals:

  • Trinidad and Tobago – USA has a perfect 5W-0L record in Gold Cup play.
  • Saudi Arabia – The two nations split meetings in the Confederations Cup history.
  • Haiti – The U.S. holds a 3W-0L-1 record against them in Gold Cup group stages.

As the countdown begins, one thing’s clear: Pochettino’s squad is out to make a statement — not just in Concacaf, but on the road to 2026.
