FC Barcelona will need a win if they are to avoid dropping further away from 3rd placed Atleti. Barcelona who brought in many key names this season like Gundogan, Felix and Cancelo have failed to replicate their standards of last season. The Catalan giants lost Gavi through to injury during the international break and that will come as a big blow to them. Barcelona managed to narrowly beat FC Porto on Tuesday. They will need their defense to be at their best if they are to contain Atleti’s attack.
It would not be entirely absurd to say Atletico Madrid go into this clash as slight favorites. The team from the Spanish capital are challenging for La Liga and have only dropped 8 points in 13 appearances. With a game in hand and a victory against Barca they will be one point from the top. We have seen Atletico Madrid play more attacking football this season. Atleti has had a number of games where they scored 3 or more against the likes of Real Madrid, Celta and Celtic. Atleti has not always been an attacking side in previous seasons. This could be cause for panic for Barcelona who can be fragile at the back. Barca will have to work hard to contain the likes of Griezmann and Morata who have been on hot form scoring a combined 25 goals.
